Adrien Deriaz

Adrien Jean Deriaz, brother of the more famous Maurice and Emile Deriaz, was born in Baulmes, Switzerland, one of seven athletic brothers. He took 2nd place in the 1905 "physical beauty"competition at Paris, the precursor to the modern competitive bodybuilding.

All of the Deriaz brothers trained at the Café-Gymnasium that their father took over from Noel Rouveyrolis. After successes as strong men and wrestlers, both Maurice and Adrien ere photographed naked by Edmund Desbonnet and subsequently appeared on souvenir photocards and in art and physical culture publications until the Second World War. In later, more moralizing times, these same images continued to be published after being retouched with fig leaves and modesty straps.
