Joe Weider is now best remembered for bodybuilding magazines, but began with a distinctly physical culture magazine, Your Physique
in 1940. Weider went on to
publish a spectrum of titles during the post-war years, each decade
changing the titles and formats to align with the shifting social
sensibilities. Your Physique was retitled Muscle Builder in 1953, then changed again to Muscle & Fitness in
1980.
However, several publications that are often redacted from the
Weider hagiography are Adonis, Body Beautiful, The Young Physique, Muscles a Go-Go, and Demi Gods, which are all very much beefcake magazines.
