Jan van Eyck

Jan Eyck Studio used an address in Munich, Germany. The studio is notable for photographing Arnold Schwarzenegger after he won the Mr. Universe title in 1967. Jan Eyck’s work appeared fairly frequently on the pages of Tomorrow’s Man magazine. ONE National Gay & Lesbian Archives states that the studio was active 1960-1969, but Jan Eyck is credited in Tomorrow’s Man as early as March 1955.

Jan Eyck also operated as Atlas-Trade.

The both Jan van Eyck and Jan Eyck are used in relation to the studio. Since Jan van Eyck is the name of a famous 15th century Dutch painter and not German, it is highly probable that the name is an alias. It is also notable that Stan of Sweden (whose real name remains unknown and associated with an address in Gothenburg, Sweden) photographed many of the same models and was active during the same dates as Jan Eyck.
