Denning's only known surviving physique photography consists of seven photographic prints of Jimmy Dale in the ONE National Gay & Lesbian Archives at the University of Southern California. From records in the Harry H. Weintraub Collection Of Gay-Related Photography And Historical Documentation at Cornell University, we know he worked in medium format.
An advertisement announcing the opening of his studio at "1703 Walnut Street" in the 16 Jan 1941 edition of the Philadelphia Inquirer is the earliest evidence of Michael Denning as a photographer.
Michael Denning, a photographer, is numbered among the twelve men arrested and indicted on morality charges in an article dated 31 Oct 1956 in the Philadelphia Inquirer. And an article from the Inquirer, dated 10 Nov 1956, tells us "Michael Denning, 44, photographer, of 1703 Walnut St.," successfully won his case against charges resulting from the vice sting. The speed with which the case was brought to trial caused considerable criticism of the district attorney.
Wedding announcements in the Philadelphia Inquirer dated 8 Feb 1959 and 12 Oct 1959, informs us that Denning was back in the photography business.
From the Philadelphia Tribune obituary, 30 Nov 2012, of Wilson C. Anderson, a former photographic technician for Denning who went on to become a city employee, we can determine that Michael Denning Photography Studios had no enduring onus.
Denning himself died at his home in Brigantine, New Jersey, in 1984.
